Symptoms Seen In People With Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia, or fibrositis, is a very common condition among people from all walks of life. It involves widespread muscle pain, and is not entirely curable. Treatment is available, which provides relief for a certain period of time. It is chronic and may take up a bulk of one's lifespan, even lasting for all their life. The greatest problem is, the symptoms of fibromyalgia are too ordinary and mainstream to evoke any concern. The person may be confused whether a chronic pain is just a result of stress or physical imbalance and not of fibromyalgia.

Here's how to understand if you are having fibromyalgia from the following basic symptoms:

1. Tender points: This is perhaps the most apparent symptom. Aches spread all across the body. There can be likenesses to osteoarthritis and bursitis, but the pain is not centered at any particular area of the body. It might throb, be dull or sharp, or deep. It happens at joints, tendons, and ligaments, besides muscles. It may fluctuate and travel through the body. Specific points around the kobita hurt when pressured with fingers. This is referred to as tender point. Where any fit person would feel only pressure, a patient of fibro will feel immense pain. They are usually found in predictable places, not usually where the deep pain lies.

2. Pain in the muscles: This is the most obvious yet hard to diagnose symptom. If it is just a muscle pain, or is being cause by the fibromyalgia is hard to understand.

3. Problems in sleeping pattern: There is a constant feeling of fatigue; the person being always tired in spite of  taking sufficient rest. While many compare it with the symptoms of flu, some say it feels like they have not slept for hours. Things like exercise can tire out more than it should. Simple activities like doing grocery can make one feel more drained than it should.  One might even feel too tired to start a work like doing dishes or folding clothes. This is coupled with inability or difficulty in sleeping. One may have to light sleep which is disturbed easily. This causes one to feel tired after one wakes up in the morning. These people have been proved to have bursts of brain activity similar to that of the awaken state, causing their sleep to get disrupted.

4. Fibro fog”, the problem in concentrating and memory: The mental fatigue caused thus leads to inability to pay attention. Moreover, depression causes the person to feel inattentive, distracted and so on. It may even lead to short term memory loss.

5. Mild or severe depression and anxiety: All patients of fibro are diagnosed with either depression or anxiety. Such feeling of helplessness coupled with tiredness renders the patient utterly hopeless. This leads to withdrawal, which further makes the depression severe.

6. Experiencing morning stiffness: The patient feels the need to loosen up because their body, muscle and joint, feel stiff. This becomes a kind of compilation before leaving the bed or while coping with regular activities. It is not merely creaking of joints, and may last from a few minutes to even the whole day.

7. Occasional numbness along with tingling in limbs: Doctors are still not sure why this sensation takes place, but tingling, burning, and such other irritating and painful occurrences is very common among fibro patients. These are collective terms as “paresthesia”. They happen suddenly, without any warning. However it occurs more during the daytime, early mornings, and do not tend to get in the way of work.

8. Headache: Migraine or head ache is also widespread among the patient of fibromyalgia. This is often because of neck and upper back pains. Tight neck muscle are the main reason behind them, or tender points in the same region.

9. Bowel problems and irritations: Belly pain, gas formation, bloating, feeling of vomiting occur very frequently when one has fibromyalgia. In some more severe cases, diarrhea and constipation may also be seen. Even worse cases involve acid reflux or gastroeasophageal reflux. But the basic symptom is any kind of bowel problem.

10. Urine problems: Losing control over bladder, feeling the urge to micturate too many times, and feeling pain while micturition are important symptoms of fibromyalgia.

11. Acute menstrual cramps: This is applicable for female patients of fibro. Their menstrual cramps can often get extremely painful, and this may continue as long as they menstruate.

The problem with identifying these symptoms lies in them being some very obvious independent problems. There is also an accompanying feeling of restlessness. If most of these symptoms match, it is best to consult a doctor and get a confirmation as soon as possible. Self-medication is a huge no, instead it is wise to work according to the doctor's advice, especially in case of such common yet problematic disease.
