Split System Installation Mistakes You Should Never Make

Updated: Apr 15

Air conditioners can be broadly divided into window air conditioners and split air conditioners. The latter has grown to be the preferred choice for people nowadays. However, split system installation might be tricky. If not done correctly, it not only be unable to provide optimum cooling but can also damage a certain part of the unit and cost you extra expenses. There are many factors one needs to take care of and mistakes that should be prevented regarding the same:

Some Split System Installation Mistakes:

  1. The angle of the indoor unit: While fixing the aluminium bracket in the wall, make sure that it is a little tilted. The wrong angle can affect the flow of condensed water that comes out of the drain pipe. Therefore, before split system installation, check the pipe placement in the outdoor unit properly along with the angle of the indoor unit.

  2. Distance between the indoor and the outdoor unit: One very important thing one must take care of at the time of split system installation is the right distance between the indoor and the outdoor units of the air conditioner. If not done correctly, there might be a loss in the cooling effect inside the room. To ensure the proper flow of the refrigerant, the distance between the two units must not be more than 15 meters.

  3. The place of installation of the outdoor unit: Another factor that you must take care of at the time of split system installation is the placement of the outdoor unit. It must be positioned on a flat, rigid, and dry surface. As these units contain the appliance's key components like condenser, fan, compressor, pipe, etc., an incorrect surface can lead to extensive damage or leakage.

  4. Insulation of the refrigerant on the suction line: Air conditioners run on refrigerants. The gas travels from the condenser to the unit's interior through the refrigerant, which needs to be insulated. Improper insulation can unnecessarily load the unit and impact its efficiency.

  5. Position of vents: The installation of vents at the time of split system installation and their position is vital for the proper cooling of the room. Make sure nothing is covering the vents and ceiling fans are away from it. Also, do not keep almirahs, etc., under the unit as it can block the airflow. If the space is compact, make sure you move around furniture before installing the unit.

  6. Checking leaks: We know that refrigerant is vital to the effective operation of an air conditioner. If it leaks, even a little, the system won't function properly. During split system installation, there are higher chances of punctures and leaks. Thus, after the process gets completed, check immediately and get it repaired.

  7. Help from experts: It is very important to consult a professional for the split system installation. It is a specialized task and can easily be messed up. If you don't hire experts to do so, you might commit mistakes that cannot be corrected. This will cause you long-term trouble in the maintenance of the unit.

Conclusion:

We all are aware that split air conditioners are noiseless and provide effective cooling to a larger area. To keep up with this, we need to ensure that its outdoor and indoor units are correctly installed. We can also monitor its functioning after a few days of installation and check that there is no error. Prevention of installation mistakes and proper maintenance can make it more efficient, both in cooling and energy saving.
